A feline mobility diary should follow the cat rather than direct them. Choose one or two routines that already happen, preserve the route and environment, and write only what the camera or your own eyes could show.

01 · Use a chosen route
Do not manufacture a jump for comparison.
The useful movement is already in the day: leaving a bed, reaching a usual chair, using a low step, approaching a litter box, grooming, or settling. Let the cat initiate it.
Do not place a cat on a surface, remove a step, close an easier route, repeat a jump, elevate food, or interrupt toileting for the record.
02 · Keep one line
Route, setting, observation, support.
Write the date, chosen route, surface or height, literal sequence, and support already present. ‘Used chair before sill; paused once’ is a record. ‘Arthritis worse’ is an interpretation.
Keep a day blank when the routine does not occur naturally. A diary is not a streak and absence is not a prompt to stage the action.

03 · Record without invading
Keep the route visible and toileting private.
If video would help your veterinary team, keep preparation, movement, and landing in frame at normal speed. Preserve the original file and avoid montages or repeated takes.
Do not film elimination itself. Approach, entry, and exit can be described while respecting the private routine and keeping the device from changing it.
04 · Make a bounded handoff
Bring the shortest useful pattern with a question.
Choose one or two entries and an original clip if requested. Say when the change began, how often it appears, and what changed in the environment.
Do not delay care to complete a week. Sudden, severe, persistent, or worrying changes belong with a clinic rather than another round of documentation.
